Together Always

February 28, 2021

This rhythmic, dreamy tune plays over the opening scene with Randi falling from the ledge over the waterfall and finding the Mana Sword. The reed instrument at :22, appropriately subdued in the mix, only reinforces our dream by accentuating the carefree mood. The bridge at :44 keeps the energy with a low repeating bass note that wasn’t heard on the television sound systems of the time. The waterfall in the background is a sound effect, which is absent when we hear Together Always again, late in the game at the Lighthouse.

The remake eschews the lustrous original for a generic, noisy approach that is not out of character with contemporary music queues. It could just as well be the backing track of a YouTube ad or a detergent commercial. To be fair, the original style may not have fit in well with the newer visuals.
