Luna is the moon Spirit who waits in lone sadness at the desolate Moon Palace.  

LUNA: I am the Spirit of the moon, Luna.  I have waited long for all of you to come.  Now, I too will lend you my powers.  Mana continues to be lost from the world at a rapid rate.  You must hurry!

In the Art of Mana, Hiromichi Tanaka expressed pride in the design of Luna, as he felt that moon elementals had not been widely used in RPGs at that point.
