Secret of Mana’s Demihuman Monsters
Secret of Mana’s Demihuman Monsters
February 20, 2022
The developers created a demihuman type, which according to Wiktionary is not a semihuman; i.e. these are intended to be humanoids, not hybrid humans or beasts.

Square’s Description
A lazy kind of demon that’s a bit smaller than humans. They always doze with a snot bubble. When approaching, they wake up surprised and swing their axes to attack.
ManaRedux says…
Hit and run is the key with the Kid Goblin. It’s not too hard to stay out of range of their axes.

Square’s Description
Demihumans that are a bit smaller than a human. Taking advantage of their dexterity, they continuously attack with their bow, causing trouble. Perhaps due to their timid nature, they run away when chased.
ManaRedux says…
Chobin Hoods can be ragequit fodder. You encounter them in the Haunted Forest where they launch arrows from behind obstacles. Their high attack means your life might end quickly. Be aggressive and attack close. They tend to run away and you can whack them as they retreat. Also, keep track of your AI allies as they can get stuck behind an obstacle and just stand there as they get rent apart. If the Chobin Hood has limited mobility in its space, range weapons can work too.
In Japanese, Chobin Hood is called Poron, a likely reference to Apollon, the Greek god of archery.

Power Wrist
Square’s Description
Within the Goblin clan, they hold titles of nobility. Even beyond the fact that they have impressive combat ability with boomerangs and battleaxes, their power to summon clones of themselves means that battles with this troublesome opponent will often become protracted. Of course, they can also use magic.
ManaRedux says…
There’s stun lock danger with their boomerangs. Hit and run.

Square’s Description
These are the aristocrats of the Goblin clan. In addition to a high level of combat power using boomerangs and battle axes, they also have the ability to summon their own alter egos, making them a rather troublesome opponent in long-term battles. They use magic, of course.
ManaRedux says…
Concentrate on the Goblin when it’s in a group, and take it out before it spawns more enemies. The Whip is your friend in this fight. Try to hide behind an obstacle, or attack from across a chasm.

Square’s Description
Little beings floating on a demon face up in the air. They look a bit funny, but they have mastered evil black magic and summon ugly monsters one after another. They don’t attack, but if you take them lightly, it will be a painful experience.
ManaRedux says…
It’s next to impossible to harm the Tomato Man with melee attacks unless you get a critical hit. Gem Missile works wonders.

Square’s Description
Gallant ducks of the warrior corps led by Kimono Birds. Though they have an extremely developed intelligence, their eyes within their helmets are filled with malice. Creeping forward, these powerful enemies summon pumpkin bombs and also fire off other powerful explosives.
ManaRedux says…
Another finalist for easiest monster in Secret of Mana.

Quilted Hood
Square’s Description
Though a comrade of Chobin Hoods, these demihumans’ ability with the bow towers above others. They cast a powerful flame magic on their bow and arrow and shoot it, so if you are not careful, you will be engulfed in flame. Also, because they’re warlike, they rarely flee even when chased.
ManaRedux says…
Robin Foots are like Chobin Hoods, but appear in more open areas where they don’t have the benefit of hiding behind obstacles. They cast Flame Saber, but likely won’t get a chance to use it.

Square’s Description
Foreign warriors. With unique weapons, they also have quick movements as sword users. They have also mastered various ninjutsu techniques such as vanishing and concealing themselves. After all, they’re professional killers who received genuine combat training.
ManaRedux says…
Dark Ninjas have high attack power, and become a lot more difficult in the presence of other enemies. Use magic if their blocking attack (mirror) irks you.

Square’s Description
If Mad Mallards are soldiers, Captain Ducks are duck emperors. Bombs are fired from their rears, with full destructive power, and you’ll be sorry if you suffer a direct hIt.
ManaRedux says…
You may encounter them earlier than normal, as the Chaos Warlock can spawn them in Sage Joch’s cave. If this happens, watch your health as your armor is not quite ready for Captain Duck’s attack. Their Lv. 5 Exploder is super annoying.

Square’s Description
Among the Tomato Men who mastered evil dark magic, they hold the title of master. They summon ugly monsters almost seamlessly and cast multiple spells. If you don’t kill them early, you will suffer great damage.
ManaRedux says…
They’re not too tough to erase with magic. Terminate them before they spawn things. Unless of course, they spawn Rabites by “mistake” and just end up looking confused.

Square’s Description
Instructors from a foreign ninja training school. Only one in one hundred become masters, so it’s an admirable position. After many years of training, they can use shurikens and various types of magic.
ManaRedux says…
Master Ninjas have the highest EXP of any non-boss monster. They likely have the highest attack power too; a pack of them can make quick work of you, even if you’re at Level 99 thanks to their occasional tendency to charge en masse. Luckily, their HP and defense are low, and shouldn’t be an issue if you’re paying attention. This actually upsets me, as a high HPed Master Ninja would’ve been a worthy foe for the final dungeon.
